Read this before you argue with it

This tool covers six genes that sort cleanly and predictably in silkies: blue, lavender, mottling, dominant white, chocolate, and recessive white. The percentages it gives you for those genes are real Mendelian odds, not estimates.

It tracks the base allele underneath a bird, because that part does sort predictably. Extended black is dominant, so a black bird can hide a wheaten or partridge base without showing it. This tool will tell you when a chick lands on two copies of one of those.

What it will not do is call that chick buff or partridge. Those finished colors are a base allele plus a stack of modifiers, and the modifiers do not travel with the base reliably. Two black birds each split to wheaten will give you twenty five percent wheaten based chicks. Whether any of them is a clean show buff depends on modifiers no calculator tracks. Anyone handing you a confident buff percentage is guessing.

Recessive white hides everything. A white bird is genetically some other color with the pigment switched off, so if you do not know what is underneath, neither does this tool. It will say so rather than invent a number.

Percentages are odds across an infinite hatch, not a promise about your next eighteen eggs. Real hatches ignore probability all the time. Nothing here accounts for lethal gene combinations, fertility, or the modifiers every line carries differently. This is a planning aid and a conversation starter. It is not a guarantee, and it is not a substitute for knowing your own birds.
